Welcome to Paint Colours with Jules.
I’m Jules and I help people pick paint colours for their homes.
My aim is to achieve the right feel in a space for around the price of a tin of paint.
Colour is therapy to me and I’m passionate about how light and colours work together.
I have personal and professional experience of how a space focussed on the needs of its’ inhabitants’ can be life-changing, and that it doesn’t have to cost the earth.
I’ve been building my knowledge (and samples shed) of paint colours for 13 years, but it was 6 years ago that my experience went from interest to intuition when my husband had surgery on his eyes for failing vision.
Whilst his vision returned, his experience of light and colour changed, permanently, and so did our lives. This triggered a new experience for me; not about what looked good but what felt right for our needs and the space, and it’s now how I live and work.
I am a local having grown up in Harpenden and St Albans, and now live here with my own family. My home is my sanctuary and the paint colours are the backdrop from which family life is played out.
Whether or not we have an idea of how we want a space to look, my perspective is that the needs and ‘feel’ run the show, and that’s where I start.
My goal is to understand a space; what impacts it and what it needs, and to illustrate to you what paint colour(s) can bring together what you already have - or want - in a way that feels right for you.
Lots of us love the idea of a brand new kitchen and a design overhaul, and I’m not here to burst that dreamy bubble. But I also think that online interiors inspiration is a bit like Tinder for houses; heaven for some and hell for others. I am here to help with that.
I work independently and unaffiliated so I work across all the major paint brands including (but not limited to) Dulux, Farrow and Ball, Paint & Paper Library, Little Greene and COAT. I also like some of the lesser-known eco paint brands. My span of paint brands has increased as I have searched for the nuance of colour between shades and finishes required for a project. As such, I feel assured I have the breadth of colours required to show you the colours that work for your space.
